AMOXICILLIN/POTASSIUM CLAVULANATE is also called as  co-amoxiclav a combination of semi synthetic beta lactam antibiotic and a beta lactamase inhibitor which is effective against number of bacterial infections . This combination works by stopping bacterial growth by their individual mechanism of action and enhance each other effects.

AMOXICILLIN is a semi synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic, effective against number of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. AMOXICILLIN penetrates into bacterial cell and binds with the penicillin binding protein 1A present at the bacterial cell wall which inhibits the cross linking between the linear peptidoglycan polymer chains that makes the essential component of bacterial cell wall as a result inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis which cause cell lysis.

CALVULANIC ACID is structurally related to penicillin a beta lactamase inhibitor which is as individual is inactive but when combined with antibiotic of penicillin class antibiotic it shows its effectiveness against bacterial infection. CALVULANIC acid irreversibly binds, inactivates and inhibits beta lactamase which reduces the effect of microorganism.
