GFC-DX EYE DROPS (ANTI BACTERIALS WITH STEROID)

  • Gatifloxacin sesquihydrate
  • Eq. to Gatifloxacin (anhydrous) ….. 0.3 % w/v
  • Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate I.P. Eq. to Dexamethasone Phosphate … 0.1 % w/v
  • Sterile Aqueous Vehicle … Q. S.

Gatifloxacin, in GFC-DX EYE Drops a broad-spectrum antimicrobial fluoroquinolone, is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and frequently used in infections like, conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis and endophthalmitis. Gatifloxacin can effectively clear pathogens with fast and strong effect. Gatifloxacin has a low minimum inhibitory concentration value, hence negligible possibility of drug resistance development. The mechanism of antibacterial activity of gatifloxacin is the inhibition of DNA-gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, the enzymes that cause partitioning of the bacterial chromosomal DNA during their cell division.

Dexamethasone sodium phosphate in GFC-DX EYE Drops is a water soluble, inorganic ester of dexamethasone and has anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant effects. It fulfills its function through multiple pathways, it binds with the corticosteroid receptors and alters the protein synthesis thus prevents the leukocyte infiltration at the site of inflammation, interferes in the function of the mediators responsible for the inflammatory response, suppresses the humoral immune responses and reduction in edema or scar tissue. The anti-inflammatory actions of dexamethasone involve phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins which control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins.

INDICATION: Postoperative and Pre cataract extraction and posterior chamber lens implantation, Bacterial conjunctivitis, or in steroid responsive bacterial infections.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis).  Acute infectious stages of vaccinia, varicella, and many other viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva. Mycobacterial infection of the eye. Fungal diseases of ocular structures. Hypersensitivity to any component of this product, including sulfites.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

One drop in the affected eye(s), within intervals directed by your doctor.

WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS:

Prolonged use may result in ocular hypertension and/or glaucoma, with damage to the optic nerve, defects in visual acuity and fields of vision, and posterior sub capsular cataract formation. Prolonged use may suppress the host response and thus increase the hazard of secondary ocular infections.
